Missing the good old target attribute

How the times are changing ... musings of an old webdesigner ...

In former days it was regarded userfriendly to open external links in new browser windows. Sometimes it was the only way to get your customer to link to other pages (e. g. to your own webpage *g*) - the original page stays opened, the user does not leave it completely.

Nowadays that's a big "XHTML No No".

And yes, we designed webpages with frames in former days! It was cool to do so! We needed the target attribute, I simply miss it.

Now there's Firefox and IE 7, using Tabs ... and maybe people are really able to use the tabs without any problems, who knows.

BTW I found a nice remark concerning the topic:

Serving "Valid" XHTML Strict with target="_blank"

I did not test the script, so I can't tell whether it works or not.

Ah, yes, I'm getting old ... it's depressing. *g*
