Tree Climbing

Some things never change.

One of these things is tree climbing: Ever since I've been a child I love to climb trees.

As girls (there were three of us, the magic number) we climbed nearly every tree in the neighbourhood. And how angry I got when one of the other two grew faster than me and got up more trees simply because she was taller!

You have to look quite closely here :-)

When this picture was made, friends of mine talked on the phone.

'Where's Elke?'
'She's climbing a tree ... again.'

This is one of my favourite trees.

Interesting thing is ... up it's easy. Down ... that's another story. It's jump or stay up there more often than not.

Okay, this one was not very difficult (but it was today and gave me the idea for this post).

There was a woman once who stayed for quite a long time on a tree to protect it from cutting down. I think it was Julia 'Butterfly' Hill in 1997 ... she was up on Luna (that's how she called the redwood) for 738 days. I had to look her name after - I could only recall that I was very impressed by her campaign. The things people do ...
