Austria's second largest city finally opens up to the world ;)
22th to 23th November 2008
GRAZ, Styria, Austria

BarCamp is an international network of user generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — often focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats.
  • 1st Rule: You do talk about Bar Camp.
  • 2nd Rule: You do blog about Bar Camp.
  • 3rd Rule: If you want to present, you must write your topic and name in a presentation slot.
  • 4th Rule: Only three word intros.
  • 5th Rule: As many presentations at a time as facilities allow for.
  • 6th Rule: No pre-scheduled presentations, no tourists.
  • 7th Rule: Presentations will go on as long as they have to or until they run into another presentation slot.
  • 8th Rule: If this is your first time at BarCamp, you HAVE to present. (Ok, you don’t really HAVE to, but try to find someone to present with, or at least ask questions and be an interactive participant.)

Rhaeto-Romanic Apex Commercials

Grisons (a canton in Switzerland) offers really cute commercials, I truly recommend to watch them:

www.graubuenden.ch

In Switzerland these funny TV ads with a pair of talking mountain goats have already achieved cult status, and the ad campaign has won awards. Responding to numerous requests, we have sub-titled these TV adds in English. Hope you get a laugh!

Yup, thank you dear Swiss neighbours ... you've definitely raised a laugh *lol*

Grisons seems to be worth a visit, but better be in good shape. Otherwise the joke's on you ;-)

Loremo (Low Resistance Mobile)

Cool car, isn't it. That's the Loremo, a low resistance mobile.

Little weight – easy to move. Less weight – easier to move.

This simple physical principle, which we can experience with our own bodies on a daily basis, specially applies to sports cars. By ruthlessly exploiting this principle, thus reducing weight and air resistance, we succeeded in cutting the Loremo’s fuel consumption to just 2.0l/100km.

The car shall be available in 2009, the page is quite interesting - for further information please go to www.loremo.com

I'm Dreamin' of a White Christmas

Although I prefer our Christ Child to Santa Claus, I love this flash animation by Joshua Held ... it's funny, well done and the song interpretation is really worth listening to - 'White Christmas', I. Berlin, in the classic version by The Drifters, featuring Bill Pinkney on lead bass and Clyde McPhatter on tenor.

As the originally posted link was closed here's the YouTube version :-)

BTW, if you're not in X-Mas mood but in need of a good laugh go to www.thenoses.com ;-)

Nordic and Celtic DNA Project

There is quite an interesting DNA project running, called "Nordic and Celtic DNA Project" (please use link for further information).

This project is open to both yDNA paternal lines and mtDNA maternal lines of Nordic and of Celtic-Iberian origins. It is designed to show evidence of deep ancestral patterns found within Celtic-Iberians and Scandinavian settlements throughout Europe. The Nordic & Celtic DNA Project started back in April 2006 and now is one of the largest Family Tree DNA group that has 1605 members and growing (3rd largest Family Tree DNA group).

Fascinating!

Medieval Tech Support

I love this one ... please have a look: http://www.devilducky.com/media/57946/

Introducing the Book
A comedy about medieval tech support, learning how to use a book. It's from a show called Øystein & Meg (Øystein & I) produced by the Norwegian Broadcasting television channel (NRK) in 2001. The spoken language is Norwegian, the subs in Danish. It's written by Knut Nærum and performed by Øystein Bache and Rune Gokstad.

Diana Sabrina Anastasia

My daughter's got a blog of her own now:

stasl.blogspot.com

Stasl is a short form of Anastasia. My grandma has called her Stasl since she's been a baby, it's a family tradition by now. And we thought Diana would be short enough ... :-)

Amazon Reviews (in German)

Books are really part of my life. Having breakfast / lunch / dinner ... I'm reading. No sleep without reading some pages first. It's quite an annoying habit come to think of it *g*

And I love to write reviews for Amazon (in German), some of them seem to be even helpful.

One day I'd love to write a book by myself - my ideal author is John Irving. I admire his style of writing quite a lot. How he describes his characters and the way he tells his bizarre stories - that's simply adorable.

That's my new favourite YouTube video:
Dilbert will be an engineer.

Please use link to watch it ... and yes, engineers don't lead a normal life! Especially female engineers - believe me, I know what I'm talking about *g*

[Mother, very anxious] Can he lead a normal life?
[Doctor, deadpan voice] No. He'll be an engineer.
[Mother breaks into tears] Oh nooooo ...

YouTube Videos

A friend of mine sent me this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKq6_vjrxMo

I think it's quite nice work, and it's really funny - if you like mathematics ... my favourite line is: "You've been a BAD mathematical constant, haven't you?"

And especially this video:
